Prices increased by 0,1% in February

The household consumer price index increased by 0,1% in February in Reunion, announces INSEE. The increase in food prices has accelerated, due to the surge in prices of fresh produce (+26%), mainly fruits and vegetables, after cyclones Batsirai and Emnati. Energy prices, who had fallen by 3,1% in January, are starting to rise again (+4,9%). The rise in prices of petroleum products (+4,1%), Added to this is the revaluation of electricity prices (+7,1%). A l’inverse, in services, prices fall by 0,9%, under the effect of the sharp drop in transport prices, particularly those of the air, in low season. Prices of manufactured products are also falling (-0,8%), driven by falling prices for clothing and shoes (-5%) due to sales. Over a year, Reunion prices increased by 1,9%, driven by the sharp rise in petroleum products and that of fresh produce. Island inflation is, however, lower than in France (+3,6%).
