The liners return

Cruise ships are returning to Port Réunion, almost three years after the start of the health crisis and the total interruption of this activity. The 2022-2023 season opened on November 7 with a stopover by the Hanseatic Spirit, a German luxury liner carrying 186 passengers. It was followed a few days later by Europe 2, came from South Africa with 500 passengers. The most impressive stopover at the start of the season was undoubtedly that of the MSC Orchestra, a giant of the seas 290 meters long, which docked at the Port on November 15 from Mauritius with 1,700 passengers on board. If not all passengers go ashore during each stopover, those who do so generate a significant turnover for the guides, carriers and other souvenir sellers. In 2019-2020, Reunion Island welcomed 67,000 cruise passengers. 49,000 are expected for this 2022-2023 recovery season, which will end on May 12.
