Country focuses offer a targeted approach to information on export opportunities from the island. Two have already taken place in Indonesia and, more recently, on the Malagasy town of Tamatave from the perspective of a business trip.
The Club export Réunion presented on June 27 the program for its next business trip to Tamatave (Toamasina). In full swing, the city seeks to develop its economic activities. An opportunity for Reunion companies wishing to internationalize their skills. The Tamatave economic and business meetings will take place from September 27 to October 3. On the menu of the stay : economic meetings, connections and co-development opportunities with Malagasy companies and institutions. Second economic center of the neighboring island, Tamatave is home to the largest autonomous port in the country, giving it the position of Madagascar's trade hub. And this situation facilitates the import and export of various goods like minerals and manufactured goods. Furthermore, Tamatave is renowned for its agricultural activity : vanilla, café, cacao, spices, tropical fruits and other market garden products. This agriculture offers investment opportunities in processing, logistics and export.
Opportunities identified
The Export Club has identified the list of needs of clients motivated by regional cooperation. Requests for partnerships are expressed in many areas, from urban and tourist development projects, such as the waterfront renovation project to business services in training, certification and legal framework. The circular economy, particularly in the area of waste management, is also a source of a search for partners. The expertise of the Reunion Islanders in bioclimatic construction also attracts Malagasy neighbors. Industry side, Ambatovy, the nickel and cobalt mining and processing company which brings together Japanese and Koreans, is interested in know-how in industrial maintenance, technical training, cold and air conditioning, computer security, piping, work in restricted environments.
NICHE MARKETS IN INDONESIA
If it continues at the same pace of development, the largest economy in ASEAN, with its current 280 million inhabitants, could become the tenth largest economy in the world in ten years and the fourth in twenty-five years. Riverine of the Indian Ocean, it offers for Reunion players the potential of niche markets on an Indonesian scale : in luxury of course with all the excellent products that go with it, but also in key developing sectors in search of technologies and engineering. Health is looking in particular for disease diagnosis equipment and medical waste management devices.. Product distribution logistics plays a strategic role in a country made up of 4,500 inhabited islands.. Cosmetics, tourism (Indonesia wants to create ten “new Balis”), agri-food, renewable energy and decarbonization were also cited. Business France deploys its range of actions in Indonesia intended to promote French products and know-how : among others Tastin’ France 2023 in October and French Agri Day in 2024 for the agri-food industry, a seminar on electric mobility in November, a seminar on decarbonization in 2024.
