With 570 business failures recorded between April and June, the 2nd quarter of 2023 is characterized by a clear deterioration in Overseas Territories. Failures increase by 40,7% compared to the 2nd quarter of 2022 compared to +33,9% for France. This acceleration is particularly brutal in Martinique (+79,4 %), in the meeting (+64,2 %) and in New Caledonia (+52,8 %). “This upward movement marks the end of the normalization of the number of failures, comments Iédom, who produced these figures. They were in sharp decline during the health crisis linked to Covid-19, following the temporary modification of the dates of characterization and declaration of the status of cessation of payments (in the Antilles-Guyana and the Indian Ocean basin) and cash flow support measures to avoid the state of cessation of payments. Overseas territories returned to the level of years prior to the Covid-19 pandemic in the 2nd quarter while France remains at an even lower level. Cumulative over one year, the number of business failures increases by 27% in the overseas departments (outside Mayotte), in New Caledonia and French Polynesia and 36% in Reunion.
