In 2019, nearly a quarter of private employees worked under a limited-term contract in Reunion, a slightly higher share than elsewhere in France, according to an INSEE study. Reunion companies and associations hire more on fixed-term contracts than elsewhere, while they have less recourse to temporary work. They also benefit more often from subsidized employment, particularly in personal services and commerce. From 2021, as the end of the health crisis loomed, short contracts were widely mobilized. In an uncertain economic situation, they generated strong job growth. Hiring for temporary or fixed-term contracts has increased significantly. Under the impetus of the Recovery Plan, apprenticeship contracts have also fueled employment dynamics, with recruitments fairly consistent with future workforce needs in each sector, according to INSEE.
