This remains the first pillar of local industry : it represents 6% of the added value produced in Reunion, compared to 4% in mainland France, 45% of turnover and 38% of jobs in the manufacturing sector. The agri-food industry brings together 352 establishments, including 2 belonging to international groups employing 4,473 employees., workforce up 8% since 2015. A significant part of these industries transforms products from Reunion agriculture, especially sugar cane (sucre, rum and electric energy), but also livestock products (cutout, charcuterie, cheese shop, dairy, etc.) or fruit (jus, jam, conserves, etc.). Another part of the agri-food industry imports raw materials (cereals, rice, milk powder, dried vegetables, etc.) to transform and condition it.
