Despite the tightening of health measures on the island from July 31 and the continued requirement of compelling reasons for unvaccinated people wishing to travel, the number of passengers recorded a recovery in July and August between the mainland and Reunion Island (+47%). The recovery is even clearer between Réunion–Roland-Garros airport and Mayotte, where traffic exceeds the 2019 level over the period. Activity between Reunion and the metropolis (Orly, Roissy, Lyon and Marseilles) is for its part down 19,5% compared to July-August 2019. The number of passengers coming from and going to Mauritius, access to which is still subject to very strict conditions, is in free fall. Likewise, activity remains limited to a few occasional flights between Madagascar and Reunion. Other international lines have been closed since the start of the pandemic. The total number of passengers welcomed on the platform since the start of the year is down 55% compared to 2019. In the field of freight, activity benefited from the virtual restoration of pre-crisis frequencies, in July-August between the mainland and Reunion Island. The overall decline in activity was limited to 15% over the period., compared to 2019. Over the first eight months of 2021, 13,736 tonnes of goods were recorded. If this figure is down by 21,8% compared to 2019, he is progressing slightly (+1,3%) compared to last year. Roland-Garros airport remains an essential link in supplying the island with perishable products and medicines, and exports of fruit and fish.
