Air traffic is gradually recovering

Without yet returning to the pre-crisis level, air traffic is picking up color at Roland-Garros airport, which welcomed 897,000 passengers during the first six months of the year. This figure is still down 19% compared to 2019, but three times larger than that of the first half of 2021. Nearly 636,000 passengers were counted in six months on the mainland-Reunion axis, or 0,6% better than in 2019, proof of a total restoration of activity on these lines. Traffic between Reunion and Mayotte is growing sharply : nearly 94,000 passengers in six months, up 24% compared to 2019. In its entirety, regional traffic is still recovering, due to a late return to normal on the Réunion-Mauritius and Réunion-Madagascar routes. 241,000 passengers used regional lines in the first half of the year, figure down 49% compared to 2019 (but six times more important than that of 2021). On international long-haul, activity is barely resuming : Air Austral has reopened its route to Chennai (Inde) in May and its service to Bangkok at the beginning of July. Goods traffic, which had been able to maintain itself during the health crisis, has almost regained its level of the pre-Covid years. 13,025 tonnes were processed in six months (-2,3% compared to 2019, 20% better than in 2020).
