The Réunion Import and Trade Union (SURE) celebrated its 70th birthday on June 15, 2023 at the Cité des arts in Saint-Denis. During this birthday party, the president of the oldest professional employers' union in Reunion wanted to highlight the greatest achievements of the SICR, as well as its current and future ambitions.
Created in 1953, the SICR brings together companies whose activity involves the importation of all types of products, as well as companies in the automotive sector and environmental operators. From 2000, it included the environment in its union strategy in order to help importers-distributors meet their regulatory obligations in terms of waste management falling under extended producer responsibility (REP). Elected as president of the SICR last February, Philippe-Alexandre Rebboah took the opportunity of the union’s 70th anniversary to not only retrace the organization’s achievements, but look to the future. Pierre Chabriat, regional advisor, and Nathalie Infante, general secretary of regional affairs of the prefecture, it was aimed at representatives of eco-organizations and REP sectors and members of the SICR and Cluster Green, the regional group of companies committed to the environment and the circular economy, of which Philippe-Alexandre Rebboah is also the president. “The 70 years of our union are a testimony to our determination, of our resilience and our commitment. We worked together to improve working conditions, to promote equality and justice, and to make our voices heard on current issues. The SICR is committed, sometimes in pioneer mode, sometimes alongside multiple stakeholders, to promote the economy and ecology while meeting the needs and expectations of the Reunion population. »
Importing companies and the climate emergency
“The challenges we face may seem numerous, but let's remember that we have already proven our ability to overcome them, especially during the pandemic. This new era requires us to imagine, to innovate, to reinvent ourselves. The DNA of the SICR is to meet your specific needs and expectations, by animating our ecosystem, by establishing standards and certifications, by facilitating and pooling the necessary appropriation of CSR, REPs, guarantees of differentiation of our activities. » The president of the SICR and Cluster Green focused on the climate emergency. “We can no longer turn a blind eye to climate change, on ocean warming and the need to contain our ecological and carbon impact. We are, certainly, many have taken the plunge by adhering to the principles of the Efficiency Label*, of which the SICR is a proud holder, but also to a more virtuous operational mode. However, the ecological transition, energy, is becoming deeply anchored, and we must join in by being proactive and providers of concrete solutions for our companies. » Also note that a conference on cybersecurity issues, by Matthieu Druilhe, president of the French Information Security Club and responsible for information systems security in the Réunion Region, and Christophe Dumas, company commander in the National Gendarmerie, was on the program for this birthday.
