Cinor wished to maintain total control of the economic and political orientations of the port of Sainte-Marie by creating a management entity with legal personality and financial autonomy to manage it.. Its presidency was entrusted to Didier Gopal, 4th vice-president of Cinor and vice-president to Audrey Belim, 12th vice-president of the community. The first board of directors of the authority met on March 23 at Cinor. It is made up of three elected representatives from Sainte-Marie, two from Saint-Denis and two from Sainte-Suzanne, a representative of the South Indian Ocean Sea Directorate and a representative of the IRT. “With the installation of this council, a further step is taken to put the port of Sainte-Marie into operation, comments Cinor. Significant work will be carried out in the coming months to prepare for the start of operation of the port of Sainte-Marie in its maritime and land parts.. The expansion and modernization of the port of Sainte-Marie, which will be able to accommodate 337 ships instead of 180 previously, for a total amount of 19,6 million euros, aims for several objectives. It must improve the working conditions of professional fishermen and sea rescue workers. (SNSM, airport firefighters), expand the range of boat services (refueling, fairing area, ice machine…) and facilitate entry-exit from the port, whose channel tends to silt up. The new port is also intended to be an attractive place to live. In a second time, development of the inner harbor is planned to accommodate activities oriented towards the sea.
