The construction lease for the new hotel complex “Le Palais Rontaunay” was signed between the Department of Réunion and Alsei Océan Allemand.
“The Department has chosen to promote this rich and diverse heritage in order to make it a lever for economic development., social, sightseeing, cultural or even environmental” declared the president of the Departmental Council, Cyril Melchior, during this signing. A new page opens, not only for the Palais Rontaunay, but for the historic heart of Saint-Denis of which it is one of the emblematic buildings. On the “Rontaunay quadrilateral”, exact name of the project, the Opale-Alsei Group will develop a 4-star hotel complex near the lively Cathedral district. Premium hosting offer, the “Palais Rontaunay” will have 113 rooms, a restaurant, un bar «Lounge», a wellness space (spa, sauna, treatment rooms, fitness), an outdoor swimming pool, a relaxation beach and seminar rooms. The palace itself, listed as a Historic Monument, will be completely restored (interior, outside, blanket, jardin). The selected operator is the Accor group under the MGallery Collection brand, specialist in hotels steeped in history throughout the world.
Two centuries of history
The original house was built in the early 19th century by Julien Gaultier de Rontaunay, shipowner from the Ile de France (Maurice) came to settle in Reunion after the capture of the Ile de France by the British.
