The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Grand Port Maritime de La Réunion, Julien Dujardin, and the director of the French Development Agency in Reunion, Marie-Pierre Nicollet, signed on September 19 a financing agreement for an amount of 8 million euros for the purchase and modernization of a floating dock.
This equipment, 120 meters long and 32 meters wide, should make it possible to structure a naval maintenance and repair sector essential to the ambitions of the Grand Maritime Port., also 3rd naval base and 4th container port in France. Built at the Navikon shipyard (Poland), the dock is to be dry docked in Cape Town (South Africa) for modernization work with a view to obtaining a classification certificate. Equipped with two cranes of 5 and 8 tonnes, the dock will be able to accommodate vessels up to 110 meters and 4,600 tonnes. Its arrival in Reunion is planned for the second quarter of 2025.
