Delivery of the floating dock, which will allow the drying of all boats based in Port Réunion (palangriers, pot holder for lobster, units of the National Navy, tugs…) with the exception of the Marion Dufresne, is planned for the end of 2024.
The Grand Maritime Port, with the support of the State and Europe, invested 19,5 million euros in this structuring equipment for the ship repair sector. All the technical stops taking place today abroad, especially in Mauritius, will now be possible in Reunion. Port Réunion thus hopes to accommodate a significant increase in activity, after a three-year ramp-up, which will be accompanied by an increase in the skills of Reunion employees, with the creation of around a hundred jobs. The floating dock (110 meters long and 30 meters wide) will be moored at Pier 9 of the West Port, along the Ocean workshops set up in the former grain terminal (the store 90). The tenants of this space have already been selected. They are complementary in their specialties and constitute an ecosystem that can meet the diverse needs of armaments. They have already started to settle in the different naves of store 90 and to invest in equipment. “The challenge for the Grand Port and those involved in ship repair is therefore to demonstrate the excellence of services and the competitiveness of Reunion Island in order to attract non-based ships”, underlines Port Réunion
