With a turnover of 163 billion euros in 2021, cooperative and associated commerce confirms the good performance of 2020 and continues its progress.
Cooperative and associated commerce is the leader in independent commerce in France. This form of network commerce allows independent entrepreneurs to come together and pool their resources and know-how with the aim of implementing common actions and tools.. Owners of their businesses as well as their network and brand, CCA business leaders are the actors and decision-makers. In the vast majority, these groups are organized in the form of a cooperative. The Federation of Cooperative and Associated Commerce (FCA) recently presented the details of the 2021 figures during its annual Economic Observatory. Cooperative and associated commerce posted a turnover of 163 billion euros in 2021, i.e. a growth of 4,5% complementing the 2% increase in 2020. These results should be compared to those of the retail trade which is progressing, his, of 3,9% in 2021, while it had recorded a significant drop of 2,6% in 2020.
7,000 new jobs
So over these two consecutive years, cooperative and associated commerce sees its representation increase within retail trade in France and displays, for the twentieth consecutive year, growth greater than that of retail trade. In addition to this overall increase in turnover, It should be noted that all sectors represented within cooperative and associated commerce are growing faster than their reference market.. While a certain stability should be noted regarding the evolution of the number of points of sale (+ 218, or + 0,7 % vs 2020), relatively logical given the maturity of the networks and their territorial coverage, this growth is directly linked to the increase in the performance of points of sale, who continue their progress year after year. A boom that allows cooperative and associated trade networks to contribute to job creation, with nearly 7,000 new jobs in 2021
A powerful model, flexible, in great shape
The advantages of cooperative and associated commerce ? For its leaders, it is a solid model based on pooling and mutual aid which allows for good economic stability. The points of sale are mainly in the city center. The model allows you to react quickly to reinvent yourself, a capacity for adaptation symbolized by the rapid and organized deployment of solutions adapted to consumer trends (e-commerce, drive, click & collect, physical and digital fairs). This model combining flexibility and responsiveness allowed its brands to “outperform” in 2020 despite the health crisis.. CCA represents 30% of retail trade in France. Its turnover is equivalent to 6,5% you PIB national. Thirty sectors are represented, with 178 different brands. According to turnover, food makes 69% of the CCA and non-food 31%. Note the place of the pharmacy-parapharmacy-medical equipment : 10 %. And that of the layout of the house (bricolage, gardening, household appliances…) : 9 %. The number of points of sale was 50,256 in 2021. Average number of points of sale per brand : 282. The vast majority of associates ( 77 %) has a single point of sale, 16% own two to three and 7% own more than four. In 2022, the CCA plans to open nearly 650 additional points of sale. The number of associated entrepreneurs stands at 31,458 associates in 2021, for a total number of employees (central and network) of 597,105 people.
Confident leaders in 2022
The majority of CCA leaders believe (68 %) that 2022 will be marked by an increase in their commercial activity (with forecast average growth of 2%). More than 60% of cooperative and associated groups observed an increase in the number of points of sale in 2021. In 2022, they plan to open an average of 10 to 12 points of sale per network as well as a budget increase for one in two managers.. Five major strategic axes have been identified for 2022 (in order of importance) : le digital, CSR, IT data management, the development and animation of the network.
