The University Hospital Center of Reunion celebrated its tenth anniversary on February 28, blowing a “phew” of relief : the hospital pressure linked to the epidemic outbreak had finally eased and the blank plans could be lifted. Lionel Calenge, general director of the establishment since 2016, recalled the progress made since 2012. The annual number of admissions increased from 110,000 to nearly 150,000, the CHU has more than 1,800 beds, spread over 8 sites. The establishment's deficit was reduced from 36 to 4 million euros in four years, for a turnover of 830 million. Rigorous management that regularly generates social movements, as at the national level...
Huguette Bello, who chairs the CHU supervisory board, took advantage of this anniversary to once again deplore the State's undervaluation of additional local costs in setting the price of hospital services, “which makes us lose 16 million euros per year” she estimates. The revaluation of this so-called “geographic” coefficient could however be obtained soon, according to recent statements by Prime Minister Jean Castex. The creation of the CHU also made it possible to structure health and paramedical studies on the island.. Currently, only the 2nd cycle of medical studies is not provided locally.
