This amount represents 0,4% of the national collection, while Réunion is home to 1,34% of the country's taxpayers. This gap illustrates the low income of households on the island : 75% of them are not taxable. The figures revealed by the regional public finance department also show that these households are connected : 92% of the 536,000 households in Reunion filed their income tax declaration online. This is a little more than the national average (90 %). On the other hand, 55 million euros were collected following tax audits revealing undeclared income, mainly by companies.
