This is the percentage of native plant species on the island threatened with extinction., according to an assessment drawn up at the end of 2023 by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.

Compared to a first assessment established in 2010, 95 of the 962 native species listed are seeing their situation worsen. In this context, the IUCN calls “to significantly strengthen conservation actions, to stop the pressures and safeguard the exceptional diversity of the flora of Reunion Island” and “an essential change in our daily practices to stop and reverse the loss of our natural heritage”.
