700 million euros
This is the level of progression of savings of Reunionese households, measured by Iédom, between December 2019 and September 2020. “This situation is explained by the period of confinement during which consumption was strongly restricted and also by the concern raised by the coronavirus pandemic which favors precautionary savings”, comments the Emission Institute. Companies are also seeing their financial assets increase significantly, of more than a billion euros. This increase is accompanied by an equally significant growth in their bank loans. “These developments essentially reflect the massive granting of loans guaranteed by the State by local banks which immediately replenish the current accounts of companies”, according to Iédom.
