Elected at the end of the general meeting of October 18, Laurent Lecocq succeeds Fabrice d’Ascoli as president of the National Union of Quarry Industries and Construction Materials (The only one) Reunion for a two-year term.
Graduate in electrical engineering, Laurent Lecocq began his career in Savoie, where he participated in the preparations for the Albertville Olympic Games within the Cegelec group. He then joined Gianre and Gaillard, a family business specializing in massive rock quarries and prefabrication, where he acquired in-depth knowledge of professions in the materials sector. In 1996, Laurent Lecocq joins the family business Sobex in Reunion, where it stands out in maintenance, production and new works. Two years later, the Lafarge group, then world leader in construction materials, acquired the company. In 2000, Laurent Lecocq takes charge of the operation of the cement terminal at the West port. In 2015, following the acquisition of Lafarge assets in Reunion Island by the Irish group CRH, he is appointed president and CEO of the new entity Teralta. In 2020, the French group Audemard takes over Teralta, and Laurent Lecocq continues to assume his functions, while being actively involved in construction bodies thanks to various union mandates.
A strong commitment to promote the sector
Laurent Lecocq intends to place his mandate under the sign of the promotion of trades and construction materials. He wishes to strengthen the recognition of the sector both economically, environmentally and socially.. Unicem La Réunion will continue to mobilize on key subjects such as the regional career plan, agricultural compensation, environmental initiatives, safety at work and sharing of good practices within the profession. “The challenges we face are numerous, but it is essential to maintain our collective commitment and continue to move forward together”, declares Laurent Lecocq.
