To answer the questions and difficulties of certain people in the use of digital tools, Orange Réunion Mayotte offers group learning courses locally from November, as is already practiced in mainland France. These first digital workshops will be held at the Orange Smart Store in Saint-Denis, rue Chatel.
Orange, hired operator, gets involved in digital inclusion. The director of Orange Réunion Mayotte, Jean-Marc Escalettes, had announced, in the interview he gave us last June, the establishment of digital workshops with the aim of supporting audiences most uncomfortable with the increasing digitalization of daily life. Many people, mainly elderly people, indeed feel a little lost. Concretely, if Orange online courses, particularly on the use of smartphones, have been accessible since 2020, they did not exist until now at La Réunion for face-to-face courses. Or, for those less familiar with computers, face-to-face is the only answer. “This is in no way a commercial approach, would like to highlight Marie Catherine Fontaine, responsible for innovative and CSR projects at the management of Orange Réunion Mayotte. It is about informing, to explain, to give basic notions on the handling and use of devices : what can I do with my smartphone, how I use it, What should I pay attention to?. These courses take place in store, but we will not promote our offers there.
Digital is everywhere, and more since the health crisis. All the procedures, whether administrative or commercial, dematerialize. It's very practical, but you still need to be equipped and know how to do it. At Orange, we refuse to allow certain audiences to remain excluded from digital technology” she summarizes to situate the concrete issue of the Digital Workshops.
Live digital well
Digital Workshops are free, open to all, without participation conditions. However, you must register in advance.. It is based on the number of registered participants that the courses can be organized.. Registration must be done online on the Orange national website intended for public information. (bienvivreledigital.orange.fr). In the section dedicated to Digital Workshops (where online courses are also offered), it is now possible to check “Reunion” among the regions offering group lessons in stores. The Digital Workshops will be taught by volunteer Orange employees. The frequency of Workshops will depend on demand, but Orange wishes to offer at least two days per month at the Orange Smart Store in Saint-Denis, rue Chatel. Digital Workshops can also be held outside Orange stores, during general public trade shows or various events, or at the request of local authorities or associations.
