A major reinforcement project is underway on the coastline of Roland-Garros airport. A new protective shell for the airport area against swell, which can reach a very significant height during cyclonic episodes, is setup. Work to create a coastal dike, made of concrete blocks resting on layers of riprap, were entrusted to the company SBTPC. Launched in September 2021, they take place on a 1,550 meter stretch of coastline very affected by the strong swells of recent years. In some places, the coastline has advanced by almost four meters in ten years. Strengthening the coastline in this area is all the more necessary as it houses air navigation instruments along the runway., sea side. The airport company invests 18,6 million euros in strengthening its coastal protection, which benefits from subsidies from the European Union up to 34% and from the State up to 13%.
