The Regional Council of Reunion voted for a loan of 4,5 million euros to Air Austral, last March 28.
The community thus confirmed its commitment made three weeks earlier alongside the company's private shareholders., which could no longer remain silent about its difficulties on the eve of the end of its 2023-2024 financial year. Regional elected officials unanimously voted for this decision in advance in the partners' current account, which must be followed by that of Run’Air (Michel Deleflie and his private partners) up to 5,5 million euros. The Region justifies this new support by the considerable losses which would lead to the disappearance of Air Austral for the Reunion economy, estimated at 100 million euros. The company, for its part, is implementing a 24 million euro savings plan., which involves closing a few lines, effective since the beginning of April, but also by a reduction in the payroll, estimated at 78 million euros, which is currently giving rise to tight negotiations. Above all, Air Austral must present without delay the “turnaround plan” requested by the State..
