On the occasion of Father’s Day 2021, the Breton whiskey distillery spotlights Nolwenn Korbell, an artist who appreciates peated whiskeys. She signs a completely new 10-year-old bottle.
Regularly, the Distillerie des Menhirs launches special vintages, chosen, tested and signed by personalities who have at their heart a love of Brittany and whiskey. This is the case again with Nolwenn Korbell, who today lives in Douarnenez and is pursuing a career as a singer, author, composer and actress, naturally using French and Breton, her mother tongue to which she tries to give visibility and a legitimate place in France and in the world. From double maturation, for Edw whiskey, pure buckwheat (46 % vol.) first aged for eight years in Cognac barrels followed by two years of refining in barrels containing peated whiskey. A whiskey of power and aromatic richness in a register never before explored by the brand. Eddu is today a range of pure buckwheat whiskeys created by the cellar master of the Distillerie des Menhirs. It benefits from the IGP Whiskey of Brittany. This is the guarantee that each operation, from grinding to aging to distillation, is made at the Plomelin distillery.
1921-2021 : 100 years
from a family distillery
This book is published by the Menhirs distillery on the occasion of its centenary. From the purchase of the first still by the Le Lay family in 1921 to the creation of the Eddu brand, the work tells a Breton story made of inspiration, of trial and error and remarkable successes, punctuated by a few bitter failures transcended by work and passion.
Power, elegance, roundness
A straw yellow color. A slightly peaty first nose with a predominance of cigar and brown tobacco. Then, sweet notes of honey, citrus and exotic fruits, with a very beautiful aromatic richness. In harmony with the nose, we find in the mouth the same light notes of cigar and brown tobacco. The profile on the palate is however spicier with aromas of liquorice and roasted notes.. The peated barrel finish brings a lot of power and elegance, roundness and intensity in the finish.
Brittany whiskey
The Menhirs distillery is located in Finistère in Plomelin at the foot of menhirs over 5,000 years old.. Since 1986, the Le Lay family perpetuates the tradition of distillation around two local ingredients : apple and buckwheat. in 2002, Guy Le Lay launches the first whiskey made from buckwheat : Edda (black wheat in Breton). Since, the beautiful story of Eddu continues on the values of authenticity, expertise, creativity and terroir. Today, a new page is being written with the fifth generation Le Lay : new references, the creation of a new cellar and a new brand of Ed Gwenn whiskey (white wheat in Breton), as well as membership in the Protected Geographic Identification of Brittany whiskey.
