First observation, which is of particular interest to Reunion : the first place of rum among the favorite spirits of the French. Rum is tied with whiskey among men, but occupies first place among women. However, 59% of French people offer spirits at the end of the year. The way of consuming the spirit – pure or in a cocktail – also differs greatly depending on the genre.. A large majority of men (59 %) prefer to consume it pure, while an even larger majority of women (73 %) prefers to consume it in cocktails. Another element to note regarding rum : although it only comes in third place behind brandy and liqueurs, rum has acquired a notable place on French tables at the end of a meal.
