After having financed the arrival of the Olympic flame in Reunion Island, the Department launched, with the “JOP 2024 in Paris” competition, the kickoff of a college mobilization around the values of Olympism and Paralympism.
It is as a seed of sportsmen that the young people of the Oasis du Port college and the Mille Roches college of Saint-André welcomed the Paris 2024 delegation on December 8 for an overview of the actions and initiatives carried out around the Olympic Games, and more broadly around the values of sport. On the starting line of these Olympics, the Department is mobilizing so that Réunion takes its full part in the development of high-level sport in France with, notably, the “JOP 2024 in Paris” competition. This competition is inspired by the system of Pierre de Coubertin-Alice Milliat classes which make sport the bearer of values of inclusion, of excellence and sharing, values which correspond to those of the school of the Republic. The selected colleges commit to a two-year project whose themes, five in number, are linked to sport : health, educational success, inclusion tools, sustainable development and high-level activity. The students must create a plastic work symbolizing the values of Olympism. They must implement at least one action in their college related to the chosen theme.. Finally, they will take part in a quiz related to the “History, Sport and Citizenship” presented by CASDEN. Sponsored by an athlete, the middle school students in the running will be evaluated by representatives of the Department, qualified personalities from education and sport and cultural actors. The appointment has already been given to the winners who will have the chance to attend the 2024 Olympic events during a trip to Paris supported by the Department.
