The Reunion drone company caused a sensation in Bordeaux during the Sofins international exhibition dedicated to special forces equipment.
The Reunion manufacturer FLY-R won first prize in the Sofins trade fair innovation competition for its new prowling munition drone project., le R2-120 Raijin. Specialist in rhomboid wing drones (closed diamond-shaped wings), the industrialist based in Saint-Paul for more than 10 years works regularly with civilians and the army for coastal and maritime surveillance. “We have validated a unique concept of a rhomboid wing aircraft, making our company one of the only ones to master this particular and economical aerodynamic formula.. The size of the drone makes it possible to meet the needs of our customers and to offer products with high technological value at particularly attractive costs.”, explains François Varigas, co-founder of FLY-R.
FLY-R aims to raise funds
The R2-120 Raijin caught the attention of the public and the show jury for its exceptional qualities : a wingspan of 1,2 meter, wings that fold and launch using a tube. It has a speed of 110 km/h with a range of 50 km and can dive attack at a speed of 270 km/h. The drone can also be equipped with a payload of 1,5 kg. It is equipped with a day/night camera for detection, identification and engagement of a target commanded by the ground control station operator. “For now, this is a prototype, but if we manage to obtain fundraising, FLY-R can put the R2-120 Raijin into service within a year”, declares François Varigas.
