The latest assessment of extended producer responsibility sectors (REP) is intended to be encouraging, with a slight increase of 3% in collections. 54,098 tonnes of waste, in total, was collected in 2021 in a context marked by numerous repercussions linked to the health and economic crisis, according to figures presented on October 18 by the Réunion Import and Trade Union (SURE), in collaboration with Ademe. Certain sectors such as batteries (ATBR) or even the batteries (Corepile) and the lamps (Ecosystem) experiencing a sharp drop in volumes collected, consequence of the health crisis and export problems. The drop in the volume of medicines (Cyclamed) is due to the decrease in drug sales from year to year. That of the collection of the eco-organization Citeo is explained for its part by the change in practices in terms of printing graphic paper. On the contrary, certain sectors such as end-of-life vehicles or furniture have seen their collection increase significantly. The collection of photovoltaic panels by the eco-organization Soren, is progressing due to the replacement of panels aimed at improving the productivity of power plants. For other sectors such as textiles (Re-fashion), healthcare waste with perforating infectious risk (Dashtri) or even professional furniture (Valdelia), the increases in collections are explained in particular by the return of good practices in 2021. Finally, Ecodds is in the process of setting up its sector, which will allow users to deposit their solvent and acrylic waste, like painting.
