Over the period 2016-2018, women gave birth on average 1,89 enfant, according to the latest INSEE national study on fertility. This overall fertility indicator, overall decline, is however higher in Overseas, Martinique excepted (1,83 children per woman). It reaches 1,99 in Guadeloupe, 2,38 in Reunion, 3,77 in Guyana and 4,92 in Mayotte (figure 2017).
In Île-de-France as in the Overseas Territories, the impact of women born abroad on fertility is real. On national average, the latter make 3,16 children, against 1,69 for women born in France. But their number is low in most regions and the differences observed from one department to another essentially reflect those in the fertility of natives..
