In 2021, 52,480 legal units (companies holding a Siren number) mainly non-agricultural and non-financial market sectors, had their head office in Reunion, according to INSEE.
They created an added value of 8,7 billion euros, for a turnover of 28,9 billion euros. More, according to an economic definition of the company within the meaning of the law on modernization of the economy (LME) 2008, the economic fabric of Reunion in 2021 consisted of 48,710 companies with a single legal unit and 830 companies bringing together legal units with their head office in Reunion (numbering 2,770), as well as legal units located outside the island (230). “By applying this economic definition, underlines INSEE, these 49,540 Reunion companies generated 6 in 2021,7 billion euros of added value compared to 8,7 billion according to the legal approach. This gap of 2 billion euros is almost entirely attributable to the 1,000 legal units that are part of the 280 companies whose headquarters are not located in Reunion. »
