Teleworking and the recruiting experience are at the heart of their concerns, reveals a survey by recruitment solutions specialist CleverConnect.
This survey was carried out among a panel of candidates registered on Meteojob, first job matching site. Its objective : understand candidate practices in terms of job search (search channels, offer selection criteria, recruitment process, application experience, or even teleworking place…). Following on from a first barometer carried out in February 2020, this new study analyzes how changes in the workplace over the past 18 months have changed the behavior of candidates and reinforced their demands on recruiters, particularly in terms of teleworking or application experience.
The location of the position, criterion number one
Asked about the selection criteria for a job offer, candidates give priority to the location of the position. Indeed, the location of the company has become an even more important criterion than in 2020, going from 56% to 60%, in front of the content of the missions (from 51 to 50%) and the proposed salary (from 49 to 44%). The attention paid to remuneration therefore shows the sharpest decline (- 5 points) for the benefit of working conditions whose evolution seems largely driven by the democratization of teleworking. This year, candidates are showing themselves to be more demanding regarding commuting time. : 28% of them would only accept a journey of less than 30 minutes (vs 22% and 2020) and 22% are ready to make journeys of more than an hour compared to 27% in 2020.
Duration of the process and behavior of recruiters
71% of candidates surveyed say they were disappointed at least once by their application experience (vs 64% and 2020). In cause, the duration of the process and the behavior of recruiters. 38% think that a recruitment process becomes too long beyond one to two weeks (vs 34% and 2020), and 61% beyond three weeks. The lack of response to applications remains the major problem for 66% of candidates, just facing the feeling of having been discriminated against (25 %), up six points since 2020. Based on these findings, candidates are becoming more and more demanding of recruiters, since 64% of them say they will no longer apply to a company that has not processed their application correctly.
Teleworking, new vector of attractiveness
The generalization of hybrid working over the last 18 months has apparently led candidates to make significant concessions on the very nature of their position.. To have the possibility of teleworking, 56% of respondents say they are willing to work atypical hours and 39% would be willing to take a less interesting position. In total, for more than one in two candidates (56 %), teleworking has today become a key criterion when they are interested in a job offer . For 4% of candidates, it’s even the first thing they look at before applying for an offer.
Review recruitment processes
Louis Coulon, co-founder of CleverConnect : “The main change is surely the share of voice of these candidates in a context of unprecedented shortage of qualified labor in France and Europe. Teleworking is one of the elements that has had the biggest impact on candidates and is reshuffling the cards for companies. Those having deployed a hybrid working method therefore have an undeniable advantage in attracting candidates, who are themselves ready to make sacrifices – on their missions, their responsibilities or even their remuneration – to telework. Another salient fact is the increase in the perception of discrimination. To prevent this trend from continuing, companies must implement more inclusive recruitment processes, by integrating, for example, artificial intelligence and CV matching, two technologies that have proven their effectiveness in avoiding human bias. »
