Edena Drinks in transparency

“50 years serving sustainable development and the people of Reunion Island” : Edena was born in 1972. Enjoying his birthday, the company takes stock of its contribution to the sustainable development of Reunion Island on an economic level, environmental and societal. A new major local historical player plays the transparency card.

Subsidiary of the Phoenix Beverages Group (PBG), itself a subsidiary of the Mauritian group IBL, Edena Boissons explains that it aligns its strategy with that of the group in its sustainable development objectives. The company
thus diversifies its offers to consumers by linking them to a series of positive impact projects : reduction of its energy inputs, reduction of water consumption per hectoliter bottled, increase in the recycling rate of the mass of PET bottles produced. Project examples ? Production waste from the shrink films wrapping the bottle packs is returned directly to the manufacturer for the production of trash bags sold locally. Edena Drinks, in the past, concluded a ten-year partnership between its Bagatelle brand and the National Forestry Office (NFB) for the planting of thousands of trees in Reunion. Laurent Theysset, general manager of Edena Boissons, describes the company’s general sustainable development strategy : “We have a global vision of sustainable development and our responsibility in Reunion. It has been more than ten years since we started our programs to reduce the quantity of plastic injected into our bottles.. We have also significantly reduced the inking rate on our packaging and, from 2025, we will be ready to integrate recycled PET into our bottles in compliance with European standards. Edena Boissons also pursues a logic of sobriety by controlling its water and electricity consumption more every day.. We will soon install photovoltaic panels to promote solar energy. »

Edena Boissons actively contributes to the Reunion economy
Edena Boissons is the leader in the spring water market in Reunion with the Edena brands, Bagatelle and Volcanik. More than 50 million liters of water are bottled each year in its La Possession factory.. The brand's products are identified as Nou la Fé. The company highlights a cumulative investment amount of 6,6 million euros over the last five years, i.e. since the acquisition of the company by the Phoenix Beverages group in 2016. New investments to modernize industrial tools, of the order of three million euros, are planned for the period 2022-2023.

Edena Boissons wants to go further
“We want to participate in the establishment of a true circular economy in Reunion Island. For plastic for example, in order to achieve that all primary packaging can be collected, recycled and reused. In this context, several waste collection operations, who have had great success, could be implemented on the beaches of the island in partnership with Project Rescue Ocean Réunion” quotes the general director of Edena. “We are also fully involved in sporting life through associative relays, such as the Grand Raid and Odysséa, by involving the people of Reunion in our efforts. » Bernard Theys, CEO de Phoenix Beverages Group, renews the group’s support for this proactive policy : “Being more eco-responsible every day through sustainable and civic actions for the future of the island is, in my opinion, an approach that is in line with the vision of the PBG group and its parent company IBL. »
