Last June 15, the companies of the Dock Réunion group expressed concern in a press release about the delay in the floating dock project carried out by the Grand Maritime Port. This installation must allow the drying out of large ships - the vessels of the French Navy., southern fishing longliners… —, who until now have to go to Mauritius, or further, for their major maintenance and repair interventions. Dock Réunion companies indicate they have already invested two million euros to prepare to manage the equipment, but the Grand Maritime Port has still not placed an order. This delay is collateral damage from the war in Ukraine. The Reunion port was about to do business with a shipyard in Kherson when the region was invaded by Russia. Since, other solutions are sought elsewhere, but cost 20 million euros, instead of the 10 million offered by the Ukrainian shipyard. The region, which is preparing to support investment with the help of the ERDF, confirmed its support for the project. Its permanent committee of June 30 committed to the principle of maintaining a European co-financing rate of 60%, on the discounted cost of the floating dock, while asking “institutional partners to support this financial effort in the appropriate proportion of their initially envisaged participation”. Mid-August, no progress had been reported on this issue.
