As part of the development of the next regional health program 2023-2033, the Regional Health Agency has launched a consultation so that Reunion Islanders express their expectations. Nearly 1,200 people were interviewed last August and September. Four in ten respondents indicated that they had encountered difficulties in seeking treatment or consulting a doctor or other health professional in the last twelve months. They are more numerous in the East (48 %) than in the North and West (40% each) and in the South (35 %). In 9 out of 10 cases, the difficulty lies in obtaining an appointment, especially with specialist doctors or dentists. The themes that most concern Reunion Islanders are cancers, hospital emergencies and the impact of the environment on health, first subject on which respondents wish to be more informed and supported. Access to health professionals or establishments is also part of local concerns, just like mental health among 18-35 year olds.
