“Let’s make a better world” : in tune with the Heineken group’s CSR commitment, Brasseries de Bourbon presented its 2023 sustainable development report at the beginning of September, showing how this commitment to responsible growth is implemented locally.
Brasseries de Bourbon's sustainable development approach aims to reconcile economic ambitions, development of the territory and respect for individuals and the planet. The report is structured into several sections, each dedicated to a pillar of the company's sustainable development strategy linked to its activities : environmental axis, axe social, responsible consumption of our products. But security, the health and well-being of employees remains the priority of Brasseries de Bourbon, is he recalled in 2023 ; “massive investments” have been made to improve these aspects, whether it involves acquiring new equipment, to set up training or offer support to improve the ergonomics of workstations. These initiatives aim to create a “safe working environment, healthy and motivating” for all employees, for a better quality of life at work.
Territorial and environmental responsibility
“Each job within Brasseries de Bourbon supports six additional jobs in Réunion. » Through its activities, the company in fact not only generates direct jobs, but many other jobs thanks to its network of local partners and suppliers : €40 million of goods and services were purchased from Reunion companies in 2023. Environmentally, the company aims to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2030 for its production activities. To achieve this, its priorities are to reduce the energy consumption of its equipment and to replace fossil fuels with renewable energies. In 2023, it has already reduced its energy consumption, thus avoiding the emission of several hundred tonnes of CO2. In the months to come, a solar panel deployment program will also be launched.
A circular economy model that is still as effective as ever
This circular economy model is illustrated by the recovery and reuse of glass bottles of beers produced by the brewery.. Established since 1962, this model made it possible in 2023 to reuse 77% of the bottles in the Bourbon range, avoiding the import of more than 8,000 tonnes of glass. It is based on a network of nine local collection companies allowing Brasseries de Bourbon to meet its commitments. : reducing the environmental impact of its packaging is done in interaction with the local economic fabric.
The credo of responsible consumption
Brasseries de Bourbon refrains from producing beers with a high alcohol content, preferring to develop lighter beers. On the other hand, the company ensures that it systematically includes non-alcoholic beers and sugar-free drinks during its commercial promotional operations. For many years now, it collaborates with local associations for the prevention of alcohol abuse. This commitment to education in moderation is also manifested in consumer information.. All Brasseries de Bourbon alcoholic beverages have the full list of ingredients, the units of alcohol contained in each bottle, as well as pictograms recalling the ban on alcohol consumption by minors and the ban on driving under the influence of alcohol. The company exceeds its regulatory obligations.
