The first pellet storage dome (wood pellets) which will power the Albioma thermal power plants from 2023 took shape on September 13, at the edge of the Port Réunion quay where the coal is currently unloaded. The specialized company Dominion inflated a giant tarpaulin 39 m high, ensuite. reinforced from the inside with a layer of polyurethane foam, a steel structure and sprayed concrete. Inflating a second dome of the same capacity (45 000 m3) was scheduled for the end of September. Albioma will acquire a total of four pellet storage silos at the port, which will replace coal in the Bois-Rouge and Gol power stations by 2023. They will be supplied by around ten boats per year, came from the United States. The transition from coal to liquid biomass requires modification of power plant combustion equipment, which will be carried out tranche by tranche. The first pellet combustion tests are planned for October 2022 in Bois-Rouge. The two units will continue in parallel to produce electricity from bagasse from the two neighboring sugar factories..
