L’Adepale (Association of Processed Food Products Companies) and IFAP (Federation of Food Importers) are implementing common roadmaps this year to accelerate their sectors’ trajectory towards reduction, reuse and recycling (the “three Rs”) single-use plastic packaging.
The two organizations affirm that they are “convinced of the need to take up the provisions of the national 3R strategy, provided for by the anti-waste law for a circular economy (AGEC), encouraging the establishment of sectoral roadmaps to support the food industry’s transition to sustainable packaging”. This work is complementary and a continuation of the individual actions specific to each company.. The AGEC law sets regulatory deadlines : aim for 100% recycling of single-use plastic packaging by 2025 and eliminate it completely by 2040. Consistent with these deadlines, 3R roadmaps, the finalization of which is expected by May 2023, aim to “identify alternatives for reducing, most suitable reuse and recycling ; to promote a realistic and ambitious sectoral trajectory to ensure the deployment of these solutions ; to mobilize collective sectoral expertise to accelerate the implementation of actions”. This project is financed by the State as part of France 2030, operated by Ademe and the European Union.
All agri-food sectors concerned
The roadmaps are developed in partnership with the packaging recycling eco-organization Citeo and with the CTCPA, technical center for the conservation of agricultural products, by product categories represented by Adepale, FIPA and their respective unions. Namely : fresh catering businesses (ETF) ; the Federation of Preserved Food Industries (FIAC) ; Ice cream and frozen food companies (Les EGS) ; the National Federation of Dried Vegetables (FNLS) ; the Union of manufacturers of fresh ready-to-use vegetables (SVFPE) ; the French rice mill union (SRF) ; the National Union of Foreign Trade of Frozen and Deep-frozen Products (SNCE) ; the Union of Specialized Grocery Traders (SNS). Spokesperson for 1,570 establishments, Adepale is one of the main professional federations of the national food industry. FIPA and its unions, the SNS (Union of specialized grocery traders) and the SNCE (National Union of Foreign Trade of Frozen and Frozen Products) bring together 71 foreign trade operators and French food manufacturers. A new breakthrough in the packaging revolution.
