A group of students from the Réunion Indian Ocean engineering school (Esiroi) won the Fruits and Vegetables Innovation prize during the last Ecotrophelia competition, which for twenty-five years has distinguished innovative agri-food projects designed within French higher education.
As it happens, Time, Honorine, Torenika et Chain, 3rd year students at Esiroi, imagined biscuits filled with dried fruits in the shape of a pencil. Baptized Creyon Péï, their creation aims to direct marmays towards healthy products at snack time, highlighting local flavors (pineapple, banana, guava and mango). They presented it at the end of June at the Rennes-Angers agro institute, which hosted the Ecotrophelia competition. The prize they received was awarded by the Federation of Preserved Food Industries (Fiac) a Pact'Alim, national association of agri-food companies. It amounts to 4,000 euros and will allow the four students to mature their project during their last two years of study at Esiroi.. Their objective is obviously to transform Kréyon Péï into a business project, to start producing and marketing these healthy treats.
