Jacques Billant, prefect, Huguette Bello, president of the Region and Cyrille Melchior, president of the Department, signed a declaration of intent at the beginning of December aimed at achieving the objective of “zero net artificialization” by 2050, set by the Climate and Resilience law of August 22, 2021. The preservation of natural soils represents an important issue in the fight against climate change and the safeguarding of biodiversity. Economical and balanced management of space is another major issue in Reunion Island, where the urban footprint increases by 130 hectares per year, in order to reconcile the needs of housing and developments with economic activity, especially agricultural.
