On March 20, the departmental council inaugurated a raw water delivery chain towards the heights of Saint-Leu and Trois-Bassins., intended to secure the supply of livestock.
Water is pumped from a reservoir on the irrigated perimeter of the west coast, at 755 m altitude. It is sent up to 1,800 m altitude to supply six water intake terminals. This device should allow cattle breeding (meat and milk), pigs and poultry to escape shortages during periods of drought, when hill reservoirs are no longer sufficient to satisfy their needs. The creation of the delivery chain required an investment of 11 million euros, financed 75% by the European FEADER fund and 25% by the Department.
