Danone group initiative since 2000, The Danone Nations Cup is the world's largest football tournament for children aged 10 to 12. In the meeting, from July 11 to December 4, more than 1,500 young people participate in the competition organized by Danone Réunion in partnership with the Réunion Football League. For the first time, the competition is open to girls.
Danone Réunion and La Ligue Réunionnaise de Football organize the local Danone Nation Cup, only football competition reserved for 10-12 year olds in Reunion. All clubs on the island participate in the group stages from July 11 to October 24 and in the sector final stages from October 30 to November 21. Finally, the 16 boys teams and the 8 girls teams selected will compete in the final which will be held on December 4. The two winning teams will be offered a trip to mainland France (provided that sanitary conditions permit). Like in 2020, the ambassador of the competition is Ludovic Ajorque from RC Strasbourg. He is joined this year by Fanny Hoarau from FC Nantes. “A girl who plays football must not only win over the opponent, but also on prejudices and sexist clichés. Encourage girls’ participation in competition, show them by my example that it is possible, is one of the reasons that made me want to get involved in the Danone Nation Cup” underlines Fanny Hoarau. Reunion has 1,200 female graduates. The Danone Nation Cup is not just about football competitions. Like last year, where 14 tonnes of food had been collected, Danone Réunion wanted to include at the heart of the event a solidarity project for the benefit of the Banque Alimentaire des Mascareignes.
