On March 23, 2022, Cyclevia became the eco-organization for the used oils and lubricants sector in France.. This new organization aims to endorse the extended responsibility of producers, particularly in terms of collection and processing of used oils. Cyclevia brings together 22 companies which represent nearly 80% of the French lubricants market. Its general director, André Zaffiro, went to Réunion at the end of April to meet local players in the sector, private and public. With nearly 2,100 tonnes per year, our island represents the largest volume of used oils collected overseas (almost 5,700 tonnes in total). To ensure the transition and continuity of flows and also avoid the risks of rejecting used oils, Cyclevia has planned various measures aimed at promoting continuity of operations with the current organization. A position responsible for overseas will be created in particular, retroactive cost coverage was introduced from January 1, 2022, and an individualized scale has been developed by territory, based on operators' proposals and in relation to their actual cost of collection and shipping. Local authorities will be able to enter into agreements with the eco-organization, as metropolitan communities already do. Cyclevia wishes to implement a specific waste prevention and management plan in communities. Finally, it will work to develop local pre-treatment or treatment solutions with the aim of avoiding long and costly transport.
