The regional vaccination coverage survey carried out in 2022 among the Reunion population gave contrasting results.
They were published at the beginning of November by the regional health agency and Public Health France. They show that of the 11 compulsory vaccines for children under 2 years old, the obligation is respected for 6 of them. 9 out of 10 children have a complete vaccination schedule. However, efforts remain to be made for the 5 other vaccines (measles-mumps-rubella, meningococcus type C and pneumococcus). Vaccination coverage is notably insufficient to protect against the risk of a measles epidemic. Faced with the increase in cases of measles observed in France and Europe, complete vaccination of two doses constitutes the only prevention lever allowing effective protection of the population, remind health authorities. The previous vaccination survey was carried out in 2009 in Reunion. The ARS is currently implementing an action plan to eradicate 11 contagious diseases through awareness campaigns among parents, of national education and health professionals and propose targeted vaccination catch-up actions.
