On April 5, the European Commission presented the conclusions of its investigation begun two months earlier into the Corsair restructuring plan presented by the company last December.
They are very unfavorable to the carrier which had received support three years ago from various overseas economic players., mainly West Indian. This time, Corsair found support from the Marietton group, holding company of Havas Voyages, and the Republic of Congo. The Commission doubts “the restoration of the long-term viability” of the company which would have received around 200 million euros in state aid since 2020. She particularly criticizes the redeployment that Corsair is considering towards destinations in French-speaking Africa., while the State has until now justified its support by the role that the company plays in the service of the overseas territories it serves. Pascal de Izaguirre wanted to be reassuring after the publication of these conclusions, considering that the current procedure “will allow Corsair and the French authorities, with whom we are perfectly aligned, to convince the European Commission of the merits and meaning of our project. Corsair has already come a long way in its turnaround. (…) We are therefore calm and determined to continue on this path”. Following this investigation, the European Commission must hear Corsair's competitors ; Air France, Air Austral, Air Caraibes and French Bee.
