Cap Business Indian Ocean, the new form of the Union of CCIs in the area, extended to new private actors, takes a position on the subject of regional maritime services. Eric Magamootoo, its general secretary, at the end of July described the situation as “all the more worrying as the increase in freight costs is expected to continue (…). It is therefore urgent that the public and private sectors think about sustainable solutions, hence the idea of setting up a regional connectivity observatory, freight and maritime logistics ».
The success of this observatory will depend on four key factors, estimates Cap Business OI : the involvement of shipping companies which control 90% of regional transport (CMA-CGM, Maersk and MSC), the quality of dialogue between the private and public sectors and the increase in the volume of regional trade. Eric Magamootoo welcomes the nomination, for the first time, of an elected official in charge of maritime and air connectivity in the Réunion Region.
