Double-digit inflation
The price increase in Comoros reached 18,2% over one year, until November 2022, according to the country’s Institute of Statistics and Economic and Demographic Studies. The double-digit increases also concern local food products (banana, manioc, tomatoes…) than imported flour or rice. According to INSEED, rising energy prices are driving inflation in the country. The price of electricity jumped 65% in one year, that of kerosene by 66% and the price of charcoal by 55%.
