The CMA-CGM group has decided to continue its assistance for purchasing power (WHAT) implemented on June 30. Scheduled to last until July 31, this will be maintained until December 31, 2023. The announcement is accompanied by a reminder of the measures previously taken by the group in favor of Overseas Territories.

In the amount of 750 euros per 40-foot container (375 euros per 20 foot container), this aid was put in place last year by CMA-CGM in order to help protect purchasing power in overseas territories., hard hit by the effects of inflation. “The extension of this aid once again demonstrates the attachment of the CMA-CGM group to overseas territories while the group had already increased the amount of the APA, increasing it from 500 euros in June 2022 to 750 euros from last August”, indicates a press release from the group. The extension of this exceptional aid, combined with a significant drop in fuel costs since the first quarter of this year, must contribute to improving purchasing power in Overseas Territories, also declares the CMA-CGM group. " For that, It appears essential that the APA granted by CMA-CGM to its importing clients until the end of the year is directly reflected in the prices of products intended for overseas consumers. » The group recalls that the control of consumer prices in Overseas Territories is ensured by the services of the Ministry of the Economy, Finance and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty. It concerns in particular the Quality-Price Shield concerning food products, personal hygiene and cleaning products, as well as small household equipment.

Reduced transport costs and food aid
It was in May 2021 that the CMA-CGM group decided to freeze spot freight rates (or floating) on overseas territories. One year later, June 30, 2022, it applies a freight rate reduction of 500 euros for a 40-foot container for all imports it handles overseas, i.e. between 10 and 20% reduction in the freight rate depending on the destinations. July 6, 2022 : the CMA-CGM Foundation provides support to the French Federation of Food Banks and Restos du Cœur for the distribution of two million meals in France and Overseas. Thanks to this partnership, the French Federation of Food Banks distributes a million meals in Guadeloupe, in Martinique and Reunion. The CMA-CGM Foundation also makes available free of charge, as part of its “Containers of Hope” program, 17 refrigerated containers for the transport of frozen products to overseas territories and donated five containers for the storage of fresh products, thus increasing the capacities of food banks. The latest decision in progress, the increase in the reduction of freight rates to 750 euros per 40-foot container for all imports into mainland France and overseas, was taken on August 1, 2022.
