Rodolphe Saade, president and CEO of the CMA-CGM, confirmed at the end of July that its company would reduce its freight rates by 750 euros per 40-foot container to mainland France and overseas territories from August 1, 2022, for a period of one year. Initially, this discount should have been 500 euros. CMA-CGM recalled having frozen its freight rates overseas from May 2021, after the sharp increases occurring at the end of 2020, when global maritime traffic found itself disrupted by the post-containment economic recovery. The shipping company could thus escape, partially or totally, to a tax on super profits that French parliamentarians wish to introduce. In the first quarter of 2022, CMA-CGM achieved a net profit of 7,2 billion dollars.
