CaryOn, Reunion Island reusable and returnable tray service, was launched at the end of 2020.
This food container aims to offer an alternative to disposable plastic trays that end up in the trash every day. These are reusable glass trays consigned to partner restaurateurs, which therefore serve take-out meals in these boxes instead of the usual plastic trays. At first use, the customer pays the deposit to be served in a reusable CaryOn box. If he wishes, the customer returns his box and collects his deposit in the partner network
At the origin of CaryOn, two women convinced that through the change in consumption habits, a more equitable and environmentally friendly society can be built : Julie, from Petite-Ile, and Antonieta, Mexican. In Reunion where around 80,000 plastic trays are served every day, one day they decide to buy glass containers to have lunch served at restaurant owners ... After several months of investigating, prospect, find the right containers, study the legislative framework and test the concept, they ended up creating CaryOn, the reusable and returnable tray. Around ten restaurateurs began testing the product in 2020. In a month, a thousand reusable trays had already helped avoid sending more than 350 kg of plastic waste to landfill. CaryOn plans to expand its network to 150 restaurateurs by the end of 2021.
