The 2022 campaign was the worst in the modern history of sugar cane in Reunion, highlights the latest bimonthly note from the Department of Agriculture. Total 1,Only 309 million tonnes of cane were delivered to the two factories, i.e. 23% less compared to the average harvest of the last ten years, and 15% less compared to 2021, which was already a very bad vintage. The two factories show an identical decline of 23% compared to the ten-year average : 680,000 tonnes of cane were crushed in Bois-Rouge (compared to 880,800 tonnes on average) and 630,000 tonnes at Gol (compared to 815,600 tonnes on average). The Grand Bois basin, in Saint-Pierre, shows the greatest decline (-31% compared to the average), that of Savanna shows a decline limited to 13%, the Beaufonds basins, Bois-Rouge and du Gol saw their production reduce by 26% respectively., 18 %, and 22% compared to the average. The sugar content is 13,56 %, in the average of the last ten years, with a higher value at Gol (14,39 %) than in Bois-Rouge (12,76 %).
