One year after the withdrawal of Air Austral from the Réunion-Chennai line, in southern India, Air Mauritius will take over.
Starting April 12, the Mauritian company will provide one rotation per week between Plaisance and the capital of Tamil Nadu, by facilitating correspondence for Reunion customers (Only 2 hours 30 minutes between their arrival in Mauritius and their takeoff for India). Flights will be operated at night, with an Airbus A350. Air Mauritius already serves Mumbai six times a week and New Delhi three times a week. If demand for service to Chennai is strong, the company has the capacity to add a weekly rotation, she indicates. Last year, the announcement of the closure of the Reunion-Chennai line had sparked a wave of disappointment within the associations representing Reunion Islanders from India.
